October POWerful Word – FAIRNESS – Week 4
As we’ve discussed this month, fairness does NOT always mean “the same.” People shouldn’t have or be given “the same” amount, but rather, what they need or deserve. Let’s discuss what would be “the same,” “fair,” or “unfair” in the following situations. (1) Competing: If everyone was treated the same, then no matter what your age, size or experience, everyone would compete in the same competition. When is this fair or unfair? What would be fair? What would be unfair? (2) School: If everyone was treated the same, then no matter what someone’s age, special need or learning challenges, everyone would get the same level of work and assistance. What is fair? What is unfair? (3) In class: If everyone was treated the same, everyone would work on the same skills at the same time with the same help. What is fair? What is unfair?
If you have time: (4) Winning: If fair was the same, everyone would win! What is fair? What is unfair?
