June POWerful Word – LEADERSHIP – Week 4

As a leader, we have to make a lot of choices each day– what to do, what to say, when to work and when to play. It can be hard to make good choices. How do we know when we are making the right choice (i.e. listen to gut, talk to mentor)? There are ways to make choosing easier. (1) Weighing pros & Cons: Does anyone know what that means (i.e. good vs bad for each choice). If you are considering getting a pet, for example, there are great parts and not-so-great parts to consider, right? What are the pros and cons getting a pet? Have you used pros/cons? (2) What IF? You can play the “what if” game to make a choice. So, perhaps you are thinking about trying out for a team with one of your best friends. You might ask; “what if I make it?” What other “what if” questions could you ask for a choice you want to make (i.e. what if I don’t? What if I make it and my best friend doesn’t)? (3) Put it to a vote! How could a team vote help make a choice? When would you use it? Why does this method feel fair or unfair to you?

If you have time: Do Pros and cons or the What IF game for: (1) Saving your money for a big purchase (2) Cheating on a test to get a top grade.
