June POWerful Word – INTEGRITY – Week 4
While we looked inward at our own authentic selves and our integrity last week, I want to flip the conversation and talk about empathy. Who knows what “empathy” means (i.e. taking a walk in other people’s shoes, imagining how they feel)? How can having empathy for others make it more likely that you will show integrity (i.e. imagine how it would feel if someone didn’t show up, follow through, etc)? Let’s talk about empathy and integrity: (1) You see your friend cheating off someone else’s test in school. If you don’t speak up and show integrity, what might happen? What should you do? (2) You see someone bullying a younger student at school. If you don’t speak up and show integrity, what might happen? (3) You see someone cheating in competition. What might happen if nobody speaks up? What should be done? (4) You see someone struggling in a subject in school. You offer to help. What might happen if you don’t follow through? We need to show integrity!
If you have time: How can empathy keep someone from stealing, lying or breaking promises? When we can imagine how others feel, it can influence choice!
