September Powerful Words – SELF RELIANCE – Week 2
This week, we’re talking about what helps or hinders our choice to be self reliant. While most adults have the best interests in mind for children, some will step in and take over, disallowing young people from being self reliant. How can adult intervention help or hinder children’s ability to become self reliant? Anne Frank wrote in her diary: “Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands.” As leaders, how do we know when we are crossing the line from helping to hindering the acquisition of self reliance? This week, your Powerful Thought Assignment is to get honest with ourselves. Do you jump in and “help” a child complete a task because you can do it better/quicker yourself? How can you ensure you are helping only when warranted?
