Powerful Words Teens & Adults – Courage W1
The Powerful Word of the Month is “courage.” Courage is all about facing our fears and challenges with determination and conviction. People get complacent. They get secure in the ordinary and don’t want to get “uncomfortable.” It takes courage to get uncomfortable, try something new, set new goals, and go after them. Perhaps we’re fearful of the process or perhaps it’s the result that scares us– but those who are courageous don’t let fears get in their way. Charles Dubois said it well when he stated: “The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become.” Are you doing that? As leaders, we must use courage to challenge ourselves so that we can become better, more informed, more connected, more helpful, and more accomplished.
Week 1: This week, we’re talking about what it means to be courageous and what scares us the most. Our fears can certainly get in the way of progress. While some fears are protective and keep us from doing things that compromise our safety and our character, others are simply a nuisance. How do we know the difference? What do we gain by facing our fears and working through them? It was Elenor Roosevelt who said; “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” Do you agree, and if so, do you feel that you do this enough in your lives? How can we inspire others to face their fears? How can we inspire ourselves?
This week, your Powerful Thought Assignment is to rate yourself from 1 to 10 on your tendency to face your fears. What are your biggest fears? What inspires you to move forward despite these fears?
